The Jawny Bakers “Bulldog” Men’s Cashspiel – Wrap-up
On Saturday November 17th, the Men’s Committee hosted The Bulldog Men’s Cashspiel. The event was sold out with 24 teams representing 14 different curling clubs. Curlers came from across Southern Ontario, from nearby clubs such as the Royals and High Park to as far as Stratford, Bobcaygeon and Rochester, New York. East York was well represented by a strong contingent of six teams.

Congratulations go to Norm McGlaughlin (skip), Tom Worth, Scott Fraser and TJ Criscione from Leaside Curling Club as the overall champion. They took home the winner’s cheque of $1,000. Two teams from East York also made the money: Team Glenen (Matt Glenen, Scott Jenkins, Jason Chang, Greg Hartl) finished 2nd in the early draw and Team Grinspun (Yuval Grinspun, Chris Fowler, Matt Coutts, Marc Duez) placed 3rd in the late draw.

The event would not have been possible without the continued support of our title sponsor, Jawny Bakers Restaurant & Caters located in the East York community at St. Clair Ave. E. and O’Connor Dr. Jawny Bakers catered a fantastic lunch which kept the curlers well fed. Thank you very much!

I also want to recognize Amsterdam Brewery for supporting our event for the first time. Their generosity allowed us to give away some fantastic door and draw prizes.
I look forward to welcoming all teams back for the 2013 edition of The Bulldog Men’s Cashspiel. If your company is interested in becoming a sponsor of our event, please email us at bulldog@eastyorkcurling.ca.

East York Men! Make sure to sign up for the TCA Goldline Spiel which starts on January 7th.
Last year, East York had 19 teams entered. With the early bird entry date fast approaching, we currently have 11 teams signed up. This is a great, inexpensive spiel with 3 guaranteed games and the chance to curl at a variety of clubs against a variety of teams. Don’t miss out! Visit the Goldline TCA Men’s Bonspiel page and sign up.
Another edition of The Bulldog Men’s Cashspiel @ East York Curling Club has come and gone.
While we had a slight glitch with the ice plant, I want to thank all teams for their patience and understanding. The ice crew did a fantastic job getting things back on track and for their quick turnaround of ice all day.
If it were not for the mishap with the ice, I may have been able to declare this year’s event the best ever. We can certainly still do better. I hope all teams will consider coming back next year for an even better day of curling.
I want to congratulate Team Mitchell (Garth Mitchell, Rob Retchless, Don Shane, Stu Moir) from the Oakville Curling Club as the overall champion. They took home the winner’s cheque of $1,000. In total, we paid out over $3,600 in cash plus hundreds of dollars in door and draw prizes. Please see below for the final list of winners.
The event would not have been possible without the support of our title sponsor, Jawny Bakers Restaurant. Please visit them if you are ever in need of some food or drink, and remember to let them know how much their support was appreciated. We hope to bring them back as our title sponsor again next year.
I also want to thank our other supporters, including Sleeman Breweries, Flemingdon Park Golf Club and Vale for donating some great door and draw prizes.
I regret not being able to be in attendance. Work has taken me away to Japan. I couldn’t have pulled it off from overseas without the help of Aidan Ritchie, Trevor Sone and Elana Sone on the day of, Robert Bunten for being my slave leading up to the event, our ice crew, bar staff and kitchen, and our facility manager Carolyn Fleming.
Lastly, I want to thank the curlers for good curling and great sportsmanship. For teams who drove tens of hundreds of kilometers (or miles) to get here, I hope you found it worthwhile.
I will be back in Canada in early December and I hope to see many of you on the ice later this season. If not, I hope to see you at the 2012 edition of The Bulldog Men’s Cashspiel.
Good luck during the rest of the season!
