Soap Spiel 2014

Hello Curlers,

The Soap Spiel is happening on Saturday, January 25.
We are looking for additional curlers to fill our skip and vice positions. Also looking to add curlers for leads and seconds to replace our cancellations.

This is a great and fun bonspiel. It is a great opportunity to try and play a position you have not played before, since this is a relaxed and fun tournament. No pressure involved, just meet new people, eat, drink and have a great time.

There are numerous new curlers coming out to play lead positions and to try curling. They would make great new curlers for our next season, as we had trouble completely filling all of our leagues. Let’s give them all an opportunity to curl.

Spiel Information: Individual entry $55. Three 6 end games. Includes Breakfast Snacks (Muffin, Doughnut) Lunch, Dinner, Prizes, Draw Table.

Let’s fill our bonspiel and make sure East York continues to be a great, friendly and successful curling club.

THANK YOU, JAWNY BAKERS!

Congratulations go to Team Leermakers from Dixie Curling Club as the winner of the late draw and the overall champion. They took home the winner’s cheque of $1,000.

East York was well represented by Team Glenen who took home $720 for winning the early draw. In total, we paid out $4,200 in cash plus hundreds of dollars in door and draw prizes. Please see below for the final list of winners.

The event would not have been possible without the continued support of our title sponsor Jawny Bakers Restaurant located in the East York community at St. Clair Avenue East and O’Connor Drive. Jawny Bakers catered a fantastic lunch which kept the curlers well fed. Thank you very much!

I would also like to recognize Sleeman Breweries for supporting our event. Their generosity allowed us to give away some fantastic door and draw prizes.

Team Glenen (East York), 2013 Bulldog early draw winner. From left to right: Scott Jenkins (third), Ben Dachis (lead), Matt Glenen (skip), Jason Chang (second).

I want to thank Hammerhead Catering for preparing a fantastic roast beef dinner, the bar staff for keeping the beer flowing, and the ice crew for turning over the sheets quickly and giving us a great playing surface. Finally, I want to thank Bela Szabo, who gave up his Saturday to volunteer at the event.

I look forward to welcoming all teams back for the 2014 edition of The Bulldog Men’s Cashspiel. If your company is interested in becoming a sponsor of our event, please email us at bulldog@eastyorkcurling.ca.
