Registration for the 2017-18 season at East York Curling Club is now open!
If you wish to register your child or children in our Little Rocks program, please read the following. (Note: The Little Rocks curling program is for children ages 6 to 11 years old.)
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q. When does registration for Little Rocks begin? When does it end?
A. Registration for the 2017-18 season started in early April 2017. Registration does not technically end, but during the last two registration periods (2015-16 & 2016-17), we reached our maximum number of applicants in early June.
Q. What is the minimum age for Little Rocks?
A. Your child must be at least 6 years old as of the opening day of the program. Opening day for the 2017-18 season is Sunday, October 15, 2017. No exceptions.
Q. What is the maximum age for Little Rocks?
A. If your child is 12 years old at the start of the LR season, you must register for the Junior (U21) program. If your child is 11 and turns 12 before January 1st, 2018, you must also register for the Junior program. However, if your child is 11 and turns 12 on January 1st or afterwards, you may apply to the Little Rocks program.
Q. Do I have to submit a payment with my application?
A. Yes, in order for your application to be officially considered, there must be a payment attached. You may attach a cheque or cash, give us your credit card information or visit the office to use debit.
Q. How many children do you accept into your Little Rocks program?
A. For the last two seasons, we have accepted a maximum of 40 kids into our Little Rocks program. This number is based on several factors, including the number of potential coaches/volunteers and the availability of ice. We have not confirmed a maximum number for the 2017-18 season. A final decision will be made by the Little Rocks Rep.
FAQ FOR RETURNING MEMBERS
Q. My child was in the program last season (2016-17). How do I apply for next season (2017-18)?
A. Submit your application with payment to the club office or complete the online form and give the office a payment separately.
Q. Is there “Priority Registration” for returning members?
A. Yes, there is priority registration for returning members. If your child was a member of our program last season (2016-17), you are guaranteed a spot in the 2017-18 LR program if you submit your application with payment by May 31st, 2017.
Q. What happens if I submit an application for a returning member AFTER May 31st?
A. After May 31st, priority registration no longer applies. Your application will be considered with all new applications in the order they were received.
Q. Is the date for returning LR members different from what appears on the Web site and the regular registration forms?
A. Yes, this differs slightly from the general club policy. The general club policy is that, to guarantee a spot next season, members have until July 29, 2017, to submit an application and payment. Because of the demand and popularity of our Little Rocks program, we have decided that two months is enough time to make a decision to return. So returning Little Rocks curlers have a deadline of May 31st instead of July 29th. After that date, all applications (including new ones) will be considered equally.
Q. My returning LR curler has a brother/sister/friend who is interested in joining Little Rocks. How do I get them into the program?
A. All friends/relatives of returning LR curlers are considered “New Applicants”. See section below for registration details.
FAQ FOR NEW APPLICANTS
Q. My child/children want to join your program for the first time. How do I apply?
A. The first step is to submit your application with payment to the club office or complete the online form and give the office a payment separately.
Q. What happens next?
A. We wait for the earlybird registration period to end. After May 31st, based on the maximum number of kids we accept and the number of returning LR curlers, we will offer any remaining spots to new applicants in the order we received their official applications (which include payment).
Q. When will I be notified if my child has a space in your program or not?
A. In early June 2017, you will receive one of two answers. (1) Your child has been offered a spot in our program. If you accept, we will process your payment. If you don’t, we will return your payment to you. Or (2) Your child has NOT been offered a spot, which means you will be on our waiting list. Should additional spots become available, we will contact parents in the order they appear on the list.
Q. My child is interested in joining and so is his/her friend. Can they join together?
A. All kids apply individually to our Little Rocks program. We do not register friends together or “teams”, like in adult leagues. Both kids would register individually and the rules for returning curlers and new applicants would apply. Depending on when they registered and the maximum number of kids we accept, there is a chance that either, both or none of those kids would be offered spots into our program. If both were offered a spot, that would be due to luck!
